Job Summary

Mistawasis Nehiyawak is seeking a competent, confident, motivated individual to fill the position of a Land Based Teacher at both the elementary and high school, located in Mistawasis Nehiyawak First Nation, Saskatchewan. The role of this position will be focused on Land Based Education; the position will have significant responsibility to provide land-based education, promote sustainable environment practices that are grounded in our Cree culture, traditions and language to the students. 

Job Duties

  • Planning and carrying out meaningful learning on the land for students based on grade level
  • Maintaining an effective learning environment that is pleasant, respectful, conductive and orderly for the student’s learning
  • Providing an environment that will promote self-esteem and self-confidence for students. To maintain order and discipline among students
  • attending or participating in activities that are sponsored or approved by the school, inside or out;
  • Providing reports and attendance to the principal when required; Enhance teaching and learning by using the results from assessments;
  • The inclusion of elders and knowledge keepers in providing Land-Based education will be important.
  • Participating and connecting with the community will be required

Qualifications and Skill

  • Must possess a Bachelor of Education Degree from a recognized Educational Institute
  • Valid Saskatchewan Teaching Certificate
  • Knowledge and Experience in Land-Based Activities
  • Cree language is a definite asset.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR
  • Must successfully complete Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
